Loosely based on the 2011-2012 theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a storage facility in Quebec; five people were sentenced to jail
When maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry finds her livelihood under attack by greedy competitors who were once her friends, she concocts a scheme to exact revenge and shake up the industry.. I want to start by mentioning that I went into this show with medium-to-light expectations, so there was no major let-down or any real surprises.
There's a certain smugness to the writing and direction that, frankly, is un-earned
I knew about the real maple heist, saw the preview, and thought it would be a fun watch. And it can be a fun watch, if you're into a low-grade rip off of Fargo by folks who do not understand any of the functional ingredients of the Coen brother's movies. And I guess it could be said all the little elements they snatched from other movies could be homage and hat tips, if they didn't feel so awkwardly and inappropriately confident in their uniqueness.
It's someone else's work regurgitated time and time again
It's the end of the game of telephone, and the phrase is almost unrecognizable. The only real draw to the show, the one that kept me watching to the end, was the cast. They're giving it 100%, even if the characters were all the same archetypes that those actors seem to always play these days.
Snarky, homely, bad-a**, weird-bad-a**
It seems like certain cast members are unable to escape the type cast that's captured them. I want a better range for them, even if they're truly great at what they've been continuously trapped in doing..
